Fun fact, platinum is used in high storage density mechanical hard drives. While not typically found in average consumer computers anymore, mechanical hard drives are always found in data centers. And w/ the size of the internet constantly expanding, platinum is a good long term bet as long as the internet is still around and accessible for everyone. Gold and silver are more fungible for trading though.

Cool coin fren, looks cleaned but it's still in nice shape, I would have happily paid $10 for such an obscure old silver too. The crack appears to be a planchet flaw present before it was struck. Apparently she also had cute little 1.25g 5 Soldis (1/4 lire) struck, wouldn't mind slurping one for the babbystack.

Hell yeah we don't see many south American collectors or precious metals stackers here. Do you specifically collect Argentine coins or do you grab anything interesting that you come across?

What are your thoughts on Milei, his monetary policies and the direction he's taking the country? Initially I had a positive impression, but I'm getting the impression that he's a captured servant of the USA, western banking interests and the dynastic oligarchy of Argentina and that his purpose is to help preserve establishment interests, counter the BRICS+ agenda in South America and to strengthen the USD and the assets of the rich to the detriment of the non-elite Argentinians who are 99.9% of the population, I'd love to hear what you think about it.

Hardly any of you actually stack "raw weight" though, if you pay retail premiums then you're under the broad numismatic umbrella too. If you don't know how to stack weight at or below spot or profitably source and flip numismatics then I'm having a hard time imagining what other actionable insight or profitable strategies you possess?

It was only silver for between 1928-42 then we went full cupronickel after that, We sort of have some new Irish silver on the market now though, the Tree of Life coins are out since last year, they're three 9's pure but minted in Germany.

Not unless the paper derivative market finally implodes and I can trade at a real "spot" value. They're fractionals as far as I'm concerned. It's not like I'm paying $100 for a graded coin. They clearly didn't update their prices in the past few weeks and definitely got overlooked. I only paid 3-9% above spot per 4 days ago. Still waiting on more.

Even smaller fren, they are at most 1/8th obols, i think the smallest in that pic is 1/16th of an obol but it's hard to say. Here's a run of denominations from Kyzicus which should give you a better sense, the smallest here weighs 0.09g (90mg).

Most people I know are struggling just to put food on the table and a roof over their heads, so stacking for a future crisis is well beyond them. If they do have money they're going to spend it enjoying their life now instead of planning for the future. Just different priorities. People used to plan for the future a lot more, but their plans didn't usually work out so it's not as popular as it used to be. Or if things worked out, it wasn't the way people expected them to. Seems to me most people trust their ability to respond to a crisis when it happens more than they plan for it.

I sat down and ran the numbers before, as best as I could determine the global per-capita silver production 2000+ years ago was roughly equivalent to the amount mined today, however prior to the industrial revolution it was used only for money and jewelry/silverware (which functioned like monetary bullion) and didn't get used up and lost like it is today.

I studied finance in college and used to watch trading youtube channels back in the day where it was more of a blog about trading. And one guy used to always suggest people read King Rat in order to get in the mindset of trading. Some people get it and some people don't. This Maria Luigi got an interesting story, she was the eldest child of Francis II, holy roman emperor, and was the 2nd wife of Napoleon (thus empress of the french empire) until he was forced to abdicate in 1814.
She seemed to be a very kind and sweet lady.

Speaking of Napoleon, i received the 1811 A 5F i bought ealier this week, and immediately butchered it with polish. Good thing is the uneven, dark patina is gone, but the coin now shine like the full moon. I'll give a try to Bobbro's technic using a blowtorch to tone it i think.

4 years ago we kicked the mining stock guys out of the thread. Since then they have managed to keep their general alive, but it's just the same few duded talking to each other all day.

More importantly, when they left /pmg/ lost some of our best posters. All of them stack afaik. They'd all be helpful in keeping the thread bumped and interesting.

I'd enjoy a /numisfaggen/, a few of us would. But it would end up being the same 3 dudes talking to each other all day. And /pmg/ would again lose some of its best posters.

Personally I'm willing to keep the topics together, and might even gently suggest that /cmmg/ was a bad idea. Good for them, but not necessarily good for /pmg/. None of which matters now that the thread is split, orphaned, and in danger of being deleted at the site's whim if they decide they want to enforce the email thing. But that's also outside my control.

I feel like that right now. I don't have my pictures on me right now but you all have seen my stack many times by now. If I had listened to my father when I first started working and bought gold way back then I don't even want to think about what it would look like now. Instead I bought the Sega CD then the PlayStation and so on.
It was very shortly after 9-11 when I bought my first ounce but even then I wasted so much money on partying with expensive booze and new cars every four or five years.

I removed 400 square feet to a depth of 8 feet, so check my math...

3200 cubic feet so 119 yards? Over 2/3 of that by volume was cobbles and gravel. So maybe 40 yards sorted. Probably less.
So what I did was scooped dirt out of the new basement area into one pile in the yard. Once that was done I had to work on the basement for a couple months to get it sealed up. After that I borrowed a 2" grizzly from work and used my truck to haul the cobbles and gravel out into the woods. I scraped the sorted soil into a pile, and then had my kids hand shovel it through a 3/8" screen that they shook by hand. There weren't any roots or grass so that went pretty fast. When that was done I'd guess we had maybe 12-15 yards of 3/8 or smaller. I parked the truck in the yard and me and the kids just loaded the bed with dirt and drove it across the highway. I dumped it on the river bank, my buddy across the street let me dump on his property. Once we had it all piled up we just spent a few days panning.

I live less than a mile downstream from the 2 richest gold mines in the county, and they were major gold producers back in the day.

so it's technically placer stuff, I'm right on the river below those old mines. But the gold is really sharp and chunky. It didn't travel far.
My land has been mined before repeatedly. So what I got is just the leftovers from previous operations. They missed quite a bit.

Silver fundamentals are strong but I have up on trying to predict price based on fundamentals a long time ago.

I think what we need is a silver fad to expose the weaknesses in supply. If the public sat up and took notice of silver, the price would go to the moon. I know we had some public interest during the silver squeeze, but to me it didn't feel nearly as big as what happened in the 1980's. I remember kids in school talking about silver, and all the adults buying it. But for that to happen again the price needs to moon at least for a minute. It needs to catch public attention. Get headlines, make a few people rich. Then everyone else will jump onboard.

Yeah but I still need to loose 45lbs so I do feel guilty. Walked 5 miles this morning and then got the itch for junk food :/
But I don't have a sweet tooth so at least I avoid cake and donuts. Occasionally I will get a low calorie, high-protein ice cream though.

Same here man. I am back on my old bodybuilding routine and I usually kill any major cravings with black decaf coffee or tea. But my downfall for whatever reason is my homeade pasta, which is the antithesis to my health endeavors. The real annoying thing is maintaining weight for months while in the gym. Many times I don't want to weigh myself but I still have to even if I have lost inches off my waistline and weigh the same.

I have old man strength because I've been lifting heavy since I was a teenager, and I was a personal trainer for 6 years.

Here's what I just did at the gym:
>10 min walk
>shoulder and rotator cuff warmup and stretching
>Flat bench 3x5 @ 225 lbs (after 4 warmup sets)
>Military (standing shoulder) press 3x5 @ 135 lbs.
>Incline DB press 3x8 with 80s
>Dips 3x to failure

It didn't even take that long and it's far more effective than a 10x10 program. I'm a small guy too.

mark rippetoe's programs were written specifically for high school (american) football players trying to put on a lot of weight fast so they're not exactly optimal for real world gold-stacking purposes. but the principle of less reps more weight holds true if your goal is to be strong instead of looking juicy on stage. just add a few more exercises to the mix.

Man I didn't know so many stackers also lifted now I don't feel as cool. But oh well. Just for your own enjoyment, I follow Gooby's advice a lot as it follows classic and modern bodybuilding. Basically time under tension is what builds muscles so I take my lifts slow, heavy and steady. For lacking points such as lower back because of disc issues I go lighter. Since lifting more moving my stacks hasn't been an issue so there's that

Here in Europe I can buy from StoneX Bullion a Sovereign or a Krug at 1% over spot (+ shipping), and the same store has the cheapest 100 g bar at 0.99% over spot (+ same shipping); in the meantime, 1 oz Philharmonic are at 0.91%. How cheaper really is a 100 g bar over 3 oz coins? Usually 100 g is where bars start getting cheaper than coins on most stores, but is it really worth it? They are cool and all, but if you want to sell only a portion of it you can't. Coins are somewhat easier to test at home too for authenticity thanks for well-known measurements and ping tests.

Personally I prefer fractionals (actually Sovs and LMU coins) because in Italy you can't get more than 2000€ in cash for a transaction, making them easier to sell unnoticed by the gov.
