Maybe not in finding the voltage drop over a capacitor during recovery time in a filter, but in applied scenarios when you can expect certain values. For example in converting 24V AC to 9V DC to supply constant current to an array of LEDs using full bridge rectification and a buck converter, you can expect what current your inductor is going to be supplying and if you know its DC Resistance, you can know how much heat you are going to need to deal with.
