What happens to someone after they get in a car accident and they have to go to the hospital /b/? Anyone with medical/legal experience? I assume they test you to see if you've been drinking but what other tests do they do? Do they hold you? How would someone avoid blame?

Also in this scenario the driver of the truck is injured but patched up pretty quickly and the person driving a car was pretty badly injured. They didn't seem conscious when the paramedics arrived.

depends, im a paramedic and have had some tested while others did not, if i had a really sick patient then i wouldnt allow any testing to happen until i had at least stabilized them. generally depends on their condition, if they were fine i couldn't and wouldn't stop it. I imagine my country is different to others though, even different states have their own laws about it i assume.

Simple answer is dont be a dickhead and drive under the influence mate.

Depends if the police have been called or not. If you bailed on the wreakage you "could" go to the hospital and just tell them that you fell off the shed roof or something and get patched up but chances are you will still get caught and face additional penalties

Dont flee the scene and dont try to avoid the consequences.

As far as i know, drug and alcohol testing is standard for both parties in the event of any accident.

I'm in California but work in a trauma center e.r.
In my experience they will do alcohol + all other common drug test (opiates, weed, cocaine, amphetamines, mdma, and pcp) along with a sleeping of other general health test depending on how sever the injuries are. If loss of conciousness or other injuries are suspected ct and x Ray will follow. Unfortunately or fortunately the police usually follow the ambulance to the hospital if there is suspicion of foul play or drugs and alcohol involved. You likely won't get off the police also ask for information about the imjured opposite driver to determine the charge you will face.

But as i said it depends, especially if it is your fault or not and it involves other people, i have had pt's with serious roll overs that never got checked purely because we got their and left before the cops and they weren't at fault / it didnt involve another vehicle.

Basically in my experience if you tested positive for drugs or alcohol the police will try to fuck you . Even if for example it's weed and it stays in your system for a month they will still try to say it's your fault and charge you

How many tubes did they take and what colors? They can mostly all be used for multiple test but I can give you an idea
Swab in the mouth can also test for many things
If your worried about them testing for drugs in your blood the likely answer is they did

pretty much any common illicit drug will show up, but they will take into account your prescription meds. in saying this im a paramedic and have only had a small amount of exposure as a nurse so i may not be the most reliable source.
but paramedics will not check your blood. they will however document physiological signs of drug use, where i am my case documents are accessible to the cops via some legal avenues. and were i am at least we are very good at figuring it out quick.

Seeing as your crash needed an amberlamps, and insurance is going to give more of a shit with 2 totaled pieces of shit, the cops will be involved. at least to find the fault - skid marks etc.

They may. Depending on the injuries to the other party.
At the very least you would be held until you are cleared medically yourself (there are no injuries in need of medical attention)
But if the other person's injury are particularly bad the police will likely hold you there until there is a diagnosis. And then just take all your info so they can charge you with a crime if the person actually sustained a serious injury or died

Red is used mostly for testing for drugs in the blood green is most commonly (if you mean like a light pistachio green) for a panel 7 or 10 (just checks all your electrolyte and glucose levels etc) but green can also be used for alcohol level. Grey is usually used for checking lactic acid (indicative of infection) but can also be used to check alcohol level

in my jurisdiction there needs to be probable cause for drug an alcohol screening (a collision is not by itself probable cause)
police will do an investigation and order tickets and/or apprehensions based on discovery and the level of damages and injuries
manslaughter and murder has been charged in some cases
someone is always at fault, there's going to be a ticket issued at a minimum

Purple is also general health one they most often use it to check your CBC (what kind of blood cells you have in your blood and to what proportion red blood cells vs white and what kind of white cells) can also check a1C ( check if you've been keeping your diabetes under control) and esr (inflammation levels)
For very severe accidents the CBC can indicate internal bleeding or how much blood loss from external bleeding (if you've lost a dangerous amount of blood or not)

Ive been in 2 major accidents and acouple other minor ones. Cops showed up. They just asked a few questions and ID, they ask if we needed medical assistance and we didnt, so we were free to go. They got a tow truck and service people out there to clean the mess. Its very odd how fast everything went by

Infection is usually checked with blood culture ( they take the blood and see if bacteria grows from it in a lab) but those are larger more like small bottles rather than a tube. And have a fluid in them before your blood is taken.
A grey tube would also be used to test for infection testing for lactic acid which forms with an infection due to increased anaerobic metabolism
As well as a purple/lavender to check your white blood cell count as well as what type are high indicating what kind of infection is likely ( bacteriabvs parusite vs virus)
