But possession laws can be pretty draconian. If you're a minor and take naked photos of yourself. you are technically in possession of CP and can get charged as such for your own pictures. If you get caught with CP, you're gonna get in trouble for it. It doesn't matter how you got a hold of it, it doesn't even matter whether you got it intentionally. If you have it, and law enforcement finds out about it, you can get busted for it. Legally speaking.
On the internet it's the same thing but there's also only so much effort they can put into enforcing laws. That's why for all of us here on 4chan, the FBI has tabs on us and probably knows whether or not we own a little bit of CP, but aren't gonna go busting down our doors for it unless it look like we're involved in distribution.
