The Question is an objectivist and subscribes to the idea that man should live a rational life for himself. Alan Moore wrote the character as what he thought a true objectivist would be that fully owned that philosophy.

However, Rorschach is not a true representation of objectivism. Objectivism believes in the right of all individuals to life. An objectivist would not be so quick to kill as Rorschach does. Though I am forgetting if he kills as quickly in the comics as he does in the movie. He does kill several times in self defense, which objectivism does condone. But in the movie, he kills the child rapist who can't defend himself. In the comics, I have heard it argued that Rorschach merely "lets him die."

Also, Alan Moore is trying to make the point that if you practice the virtues of objectivism, you will become deranged. But one of the main virtues is consistency. One becomes deranged when his actions and his beliefs are INconsistent with each other.

In the end, Moore portrays objectivism as ultimately foolish. Rorschach's belief in never compromising gives him the intention of revealing Ozymandias' plan to the world. This is suggested as foolish, because it will undo the world peace that the plan has achieved.

Night Owl expresses the idea that it isn't world peace that the plan has achieved. It is a perversion of peace because it has been achieved through a lie. But Rorschach is the only one man enough to reveal this lie. He will not compromise, even when he knows Doctor Manhattan will not allow him to reveal it by killing him first.

Alan Moore killed off the Rorschach and thus demonized objectivism. But Rorschach was right. The world peace garnered from the plan was based on a lie. It's not true world peace. The countries still hate each other for reasons that still haven't been resolved. The plan doesn't fix the problems, just distracts from them. It's a peace based upon the antagonism against a mutual enemy. But that enemy is not real. What happens when that enemy never returns? Will another false flag be required? Another lie costing millions of lies? The cost of world peace is paid in millions of lives every so often? That truly is a perversion, and sets a precedent that people's lives are expendable "for the greater good." If such a plan was followed regularly, it would cost countless lives into an indefinite future.

No, it would be better to try to deal with the problems in the present than to kick them down the road for an even greater sacrifice in the future.

The actions that one side sees as correct, the other side as incorrect. Funny thing he, they are both describing the same actions. The actions don't change, just the understanding of their consequences. An action cannot be both right and wrong. One side is correct, and judgment is not just some arbitrary feeling people have.

Learn about history, learn about politics, learn about economics. Don't just be an ignoramus of your world spouting the excuse, "I'll just leave it to men smarter than me." Because I've got news for you. These men that you deem smarter have just as much access to information as you do. And yet they are still not finding correct solutions.

There are certain actions that people are advocating these days that are wrong. Actions that have bad consequences, actions that historically, logically, and inevitably lead to human plight and suffering. Take a stand in your world. You live in it! Love it! Defend it! Just don't let it go to shit! And if it's gonna go to shit anyway, then at least you can die with a clear conscious knowing you tried.
