Hey /b/,

/trv/ here. I'm American and have been all over the world but never to Mexico. Have any of you been to Mexico City? I live an hour from Detroit and they have flights there for about $350-$400. Seems like a fair price to me and I'm thinking of booking a ticket for twelve days over spring break.

Already going to India for the fifth time over winter break and probably gonna travel around some other part of the world in summer.

Nice trips.

I'm not a big fan of beaches. Cancun aside, the only cheap flights from Detroit are to Mexico City. I recently went to Bogota and loved it, so I figure I'll give the Mexican capital a try, too. If you have any suggestions on things to do in that area outside of the city, that'd be cool, too.

I've traveled quite a bit, and, as much as I hate to admit it, I'm just not a beach guy. Plus, I think Cancun is gonna be crazy when I'm on spring break. While I have absolutely nothing against people who want to have fun and party, I just wanna meet Mexicans ad explore a new place.

But I'm not familiar with Cancun and its surroundings, so if I'm missing something, definitely tell me!

well Cancun is more than beach and party Cancun have all the mayor cities of the Mayan culture if you are the kind of guy who likes to explore wonders of the nature and dead civilizations you have all the Mayan ruins chichenitza and stuff

also there are many natural park on other cities in mexico like El cielo

Mexico city is fine for tourists.
cheap and decent places to stay. nice Hostels, filled with people around the world. even those places organize trips to cultural places, and in the night they take you to nice bars, they got a van so you have to worry about transport in the middle of the night/early morning.

I definitely don't want to sound like a travel snob, but I like doing things sorta at my own pace. What are some good activities to do or places I can go where I'll meet regular Mexicans? I like taking risks and meeting people and getting into sort of silly situations. I'm down to visit museums and stuff, too, but the most memorable parts of my travels are always just meeting people, whether they're locals or other travelers.

Also gonna try to stay away from alcohol because I have a GF and I'll probably end up cheating on her if I get drunk, lol.

Go to Condesa or Col. Roma in Mexico City... upper higher class hipsters, art, coffee shops, bars, etc... you can meet people anywhere there.

you set on Mexico City? From there you can travel to Puebla and Cuernavaca... great cities. lots of historic places and things to do. I think like they say, a hostal is a great idea to meet people or use AirBNB to book where you'll stay and your hosts can give you great tips on where to go and what to do.

She's encouraging me to travel by myself, since I enjoy doing it. We've been together for a year, and she wants to move in with me after I finish college. She says "travel by yourself while you can, because I'm going to to want to go everywhere with you afterward."

Plus, she's a graduate and has a full-time job. She was born outside of the United States and is using most of her paid vacation to go visit relatives with her mom and dad in December.

Not necessarily set on Mexico City, but the cheapest tickets out of Detroit are going there. I'd be down for another country, too, but the only other cheap international flights are to Colombia and I literally just went there a month or two ago.

Never been to Veracruz, but I agree... Guadalajara, Jalisco is another great place to go. Second largest city in Mexico, lots of culture and shit to do, you don't wanna drink but you can take a tour in Tequila, Jalisco, where they make a famous alcoholic drink whose name I forgot.

In Guadalajara, Laffayette neighborhood is awesome.

If I were you.. hmmm... i might split up my trip with Mexico City and Guadalajara, a plane ticket from Mexico-GDL should be cheap.

But yeah, in Mexico City try to travel to nearby cities you can get there by bus Cuernavaca, Tepoztlan, go see the pyramids and go to Sullivan St. or La Merced to pick up hookers.

Also use Uber in the city, these are middle class kids so they know what's cool to do.

Thanks for the tips. I won't pretend to be a perfect guy, but I'm gonna leave hookers out of the picture, haha. In addition to having a girlfriend, I'm also a student, so I can only afford to spend so much as I earn (sadly mommy and daddy do not really support my traveling habit and are poor anyway).

I was fucking blown away by how friendly Colombians were, hoping Mexico is something similar.

I made a couple of threads on other boards and other people were recommending Veracruz, too.

Probably gonna buy my ticket now if the price is the same, doubt it changed in an hour.

Now I've just gotta find my debit card.
