not had it myself, but one of my best friends growing up had it. surgery and i think a couple weeks in the hospital recovering. he said the only good thing was sleeping w/ the morphine drip button in his hand. best of luck anonfag and sucks your gonna have a 12'' rod in ur back (also useful for saying u have a 12'' rod lol)

mine is not ''2 bad for surgery'' the doctor says its only cosmtic problem. if its not life risken they dont do shit. they gave me shoes high 1cm for my leg diffrence (maybe this is what coust it).

Having the anesthesia tests for the operation done on Thursday, I only get pain after I've been standing/ doing physical activity for about 4+ hours, anything less than that and i'm alright.

I have scoliosis also. My ribcages are disproportional, and my right ribcage is more prominent. I feel sharp pains in the right side of my back when i lower my head. Although people cant see it, I see difference when looking at the mirror. How fucked am I /b/?

I've got kyphosis. Seriously debating surgery because pain if standing/walking for 30+ minutes, gets insane at like 2 hours. I tried to work at a place that requires standing the whole time and after my shifts I had to sit in my car for 30 minutes because I was in too much pain to drive. Quit after 2 days. Feels bad man.

If you are in America, and under like 21 you can qualify to go to a Shriner's Children's Hospital. Everything there is free. Free appointments, free surgery, and you can even get a free ride there and back.

I have scheuermanns disease (vertebrae got fucked up and made me have a hunch back) and a slight case of scoliosis that led to having 2 titanium rods running up my entire spine

tbh I dont know since when I was a kid (about 10-11?)they diagnosed it what I can remember from the talk with my mum from that time is that I have fucked up chest and spine, and the surgery is too expensive ( big family and a house that needed a renovation badly) so I just dealt with it , I did some exercises at home (some in school)that they gave me tho (not often but I guess it helped)

My back hurts every single day
I was confined to a couch for like 3-4 weeks, and even like 4 months later I can't run or do anything
The healing process is really fucking slow too, and it bled like a fucker

but tbh I think there should be some equivalent in my country aswell the problem was that we where realy hmm uninformed at that time , poor and lacked a good source of information whatsoever ( 95-99, no internet whatsoever or any clue about what education path to choose not wana sound like I am crying but I am sure if my parents finished uni and where more educated I would have better start at life in general/ achieve more)

I had no surgery my back is preaty much in pain everyday, worst times are when I go to sleep I need like good 30 min of laying still on my back so my bones "relax" and I can finaly sleep (before that 90% of times the pain is so intense my eyes are in tears)

I know I have it but I have never actually had my curve measured. Everyone else in my family has it to some degree and my sister even had to wear a back brace when she was younger. I practice BJJ and Yoga and if anything I believe that having scoliosis has made me more flexible since it has never
caused me any pain or discomfort and I am more flexible then most people I know.

I dunno, they gave me a shot, I passed out - 8 hours later I'm in ICU, recovering after the surgery
Now my curvative is 16-18 degrees after whooping 68.

I had a 52 degree curve before I went to surgery. Pretty much prior to the surgery I woke up everyday with my back hurting. The surgery part was alright but the part that sucked the most was the healing process. Pretty much ended up having a scar run from the bottom of my neck to the top of my ass.

1st week was hell and spent in the hospital. Recall being completely being able to urinate on my own the first 3 days and had a catheter which sucked balls. After the first 3 days I was able to get up and walk the the toilet in the room I was in but that shit hurt getting in and out of bed. Jump to like day 6 or 7 in the hospital I was hating life being stuck in bed. The entire duration of my stay in the hospital I had 0 appetite so I lost like 10lbs or so.

Here's me now. Only needed an anterior incision. Was minor, but I decided to get it done 'cause I feared it would get worse.

All's well, besides a minor permanent loss in flexibility (never could reach my toes anyway).

i do. the best advice i can give is to get to an actual class 10 minutes before it starts and talk to the teacher about your condition so they can adjust their teaching accordingly. definitely don't just do exercises from the internet, because the spine is delicate and requires a second opinion

Post surgery I remember the first drive back to my house which was 40 minutes away but felt like forever seeing how the road was shit and I felt every little bump which caused pain. I recall shortly after surgery I think it was a week after I got out they put me in a 2 month physical therapy schedule pretty much every 2 or 3 days (was like 7-8 years ago). You will be pretty much stuck in bed for the first month post surgery which sucks because your body is going to be sore and little motion means your lungs weaken to the point where you will constantly tired.

Now its been 7-8 years and have no problems, only thing I can say is that I can't bend forward much, I can't lift heavy shit other wise my lower back gives. Looking at me you couldn't tell I had ever had problems with my back.

I went from 34 degree to 24 as a child and today as an adult it's under 9.
I say lucky because I couldn't bare that thing to hold me upright as a kid and I still got better with time.

Oh, I see.

Well, he was a pleasant guy. Didn't really talk to him much. I only met him twice; once at a consult a few days before the surgery and once when I recovering in hospital. He had to leave; was only in my country for two weeks and he had over 20 patients like me.

I guess I have it easier than the other guys.

5 years on, I've been told I can do almost anything. Any exercise goes, but I should be careful when lifting things over my head. I should also avoid trampolines and bumper cars. I found out the bumper cars thing the hard way.

Martial arts are fine, but I should be careful of strikes to my lower back.

No idea about dancing or ziplining, bit I think I can do rock climbing.

The ribs themselves do not hurt, however because of this my muscles get "trapped" or whatever and that can hurt like fuck from time to time.

When doing some running, after 3km (1.8miles) my left shoulder hurts.

Swimming is just fine.

After the operation, when they force you to sit up straight, did your eyesight also swing? That was freaking weird.

I just remember being in pain after my surgery and when they forced me up it hurt like a motherfucker, everything felt awful. My ribs feel weird constantly. They removed one and fused it with my spine and then removed 6 of my ribtips. One of my ribs was about to pierce a lung

I got bigger issues than the spine, at the moment i'm in a mental hospital for my spontanious mental breakdowns. Which happen... sometimes 3 times or 4 times a month.

Now i'm working on that. Which is no joke.

I know I've got one. Had one for years, but really became a problem at 20 with severe sciatic pain that stopped me from walking for any period of time without having to sit down. My doctor back then didn't diagnose it though, just sent me to a physio who basically said "all better" and that was that.

Definitely not all better though, in fact getting worse. My posture is shit and my gait is all over the place. Finally had some x-rays (first doctor didn't even do that shit), but haven't heard back in like 2 months. Probably lost them like they lost the last thing I gave them.

Has a 45 degree curvature. Consultants wanted me to grow as much as possible before the full spinal fusion. Had it when I was 16. They broke ribs to brace the pin and my spine.
Post Op the worst pain was from my ribs (back just felt stiff). I could cough, fart, shit or laugh without my ribs hurting. I am now nine years in and the worst pain I get is when I sneeze (back tries to bend, pin resists). Other than that I am relatively active for someone who suffers from Spina Bifida Occulta as well.

I have had a spinal fusion and had a minor car accident earlier this year. Was pretty much just standard whiplash, but the impact was side on and spun me so there wasn't an excessive amount of inertia.

Obviously I went into shock afterwards but when I do I just go really chilled. Also the next day I was watching rugby all day and drinking so probably masked a lot of the pain. Had some lower back pain for a couple of weeks after but was driving and back at work on the Monday after the accident.

The thing is you probably spend the first year or so after the Op worrying about knocks and bumps that may fuck you up. But to be honest, anyone could get knocked over by a car and paralysed so I just gave up worrying about it. I play cricket and touch rugby and drive like everyone else.

Had my surgery at John Radcliffe in Oxford, England.

Performed by James Wilson Mcdonald. All in all probably the best possible hospital, consultant and after care (Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre) that I could possibly have hoped for.
