i can only aim a gun when i have one eye closed.

but apparently you're supposed to aim with both eyes opened.

am i just defective, or is two-eye aiming something you can train yourself to do.

Where did you get that from?. Every man has one dominant eye and one nondominant . Together they make the perfect picture as it is. You can check which one is yours by a simple test: look at some still object that is not close but not too far away either w both eyes. Form a circle w your hand such on that object. Now close one eye ,and then the other. If the object is still "inside" the circle your fingers made that eye with wich you are observing the object is the dominant one.

My father and me have both dominant left eyes but due to him being in special forces he had to teach himself to aim w his right eye too. Im good at aiming too

Can someone explain science for why it even matters. I shoot with one eye closed and hit center mass with a 12 gauge slug at 150 yards on first shot 2 days ago ;)

This is wrong.

Take your right hand and point at and object with both eyes open.

Now close one eye at a time, and it would appear that the right eye is dominant.

Now, do the same with your left hand, this time the left eye appears dominant.

Your brain does a lot of processing when interpreting vision. You need both eyes open to accurately aim at a target, no matter what weapon you are using.

Yes. As I've said before, its not about the eyes, but the brain, if you close one eye the brain tries to compensate. Even if you are using one eye for a scope.

This doesn't prove anything other than perspective. Dominant eye isn't about which eye is lined up with your hand, it's about which eye does the majority of the processing.

Why the fuck would you jerk it? You pull every trigger straight back no matter the gun. Also if hunting with slugs or 00 buck in a shotgun, you may want to use one eye.

Your eyes do not process anything, your brain does.

If you close one eye, the brain attempts to guess what the second eye would have seen and adds that information to what its interpreting from your open eye.

The result will always be less accurate than aiming with both eyes open, no matter how hard you try to argue the opposite.

Woah... my left eye is "dominant" However I just pointed my right arm and finger at something aprox 30 feet away and aimed it with each eye and then both at the same time. I found that although sometimes it appeared aimed incorrectly when i opened the other eye, or both. If i moved my head so that the eye lines up with the arm it was right on target.

I have a theory that it doesnt fucking matter whether you have either eye open or both. As long as its lined up with the gun properly (left shoulder for left eye, right shoulder for right) Im gonna test this at the public range tomorrow

So i double checked the eye dominant tests on google, but i'm not getting consistent results.
Is it possible to be 'ambidextrous' when it comes to eye's? - I'm right handed, and left footed, so i'm not 'one sided'

Having another eye open doesn't make you shoot one stationary target better, no one ITT has said that. It keeps your field of vision open (tracking targets, or transitioning to another target) and reduces eye fatigue.

When i look through a triangle at an object and alternate closing my eyes, the object shifts left and right - not one way
And when i look past my thumb at an object and do the same, i get the same result.
If i bring my triangle up to my face, I get varied results of both my left and right eye.

It is though. Now instead of binocular vision, you have monocular vision. With that comes a loss of accurate depth perception. How is this hard to understand? Now instead of your brain making a composite image of the overlapping fields, it has only one visual input. Not to mention the loss of peripherals.

At least make sure of your facts when pointing out someone else's mistakes, the eyes do not work as two individual units, they overlap for a reason, the sliver you lose is not the issue.

the inability to accurately judge distance, angle etc. is, the fact that each eye has a blind spot that the brain uses visual information from the other eye to compensate for is, etc.
