It's a problem with the store that we try to address, but unfortunately our turnover rate is also high, and so it becomes a balancing act. The more experienced and knowledgeable associates are almost always "dumped" onto customers with questions about the product while the newer ones stand and listen with the other 5 customers that have questions. Depending on your area your store might see a lot of construction workers coming in, and while I can't speak for other departments, in my department (building materials), probably around 45% of our shift is spent forklifting pallets of concrete or bunks of lumber into trucks, a task which requires 2 associates (spotter and driver), the driver usually being the aforementioned experienced associate, making it even more complicated. That's just my observations.

I transferred from a store with a shitty SM to a store with a great SM and the differences were apparent almost immediately. I'd imagine it's the same with inter-district transfers. If transferring isn't possible, a good DH can make all the difference.
