When a cop or vehicle registration office verifies your insurance do they only look at the piece of paper to make sure the dates are correct or do they have another way of verification?

Lost my vehicle registration and I'm trying to sell my car. Our registration office requires that you have proof of insurance but I'm not even going to be driving it so I figured I'd have my girl photoshop it.
